These short trips are great for the aspiring adventurer who hopes to participate in a longer trip during the summer!

3 day / 2 night

$360

These trips are intended to give your child a taste of living out of a backpack and what it’s like to be part of a team surviving in the great outdoors. During these trips, students will be responsible for all aspects of back country living: tent set up and break down, food preparation, staying warm and dry, fire building, cooking, cleaning, and following Leave No Trace principles. Students will learn to work in a group toward a common goal, for example, navigating a map or making critical decisions about the weather. By the end of the trip, students will have learned how to live self-sufficiently in the wild.

5 day / 4 night

$700

These trips are intended to build on the skills and practices introduced during our 3 day trips, but attending a 3 day trip is not a prerequisite. The 5 day trips are more physically and mentally challenging, simply because the time spend in the back country is greater.  Students will gain a more in-depth understanding of local ecology as they cross over many different types of Virginia ecosystems. At Greenstone Adventures we believe that the longer you spend in the back country, the greater the benefits you will earn. Our five-day trips will build your child's self-confidence and independence, and allow your child to develop the strongest possible connection with nature, our guides, and their peers.

DATES: OCTOBER 9-13

Custom Trip

$TBD

Custom trips are available for private groups who have specific requests, unique needs, or physical limitations, or are simply looking for a totally customized experience. For example, you are an 8th grade science teacher and you want to take your biology class to a specific wilderness area. Your child wants a weekend adventure for their birthday with five of their best friends. You want your soccer team to have a bonding experience before the season starts. Our team is capable of organizing and guiding any type of adventure. Please contact us directly to set up a custom trip.

Safety

Backcountry travel is inherently risky, and there are always things you need to be aware of and prepared for. The uncertainty of the backcountry, however, is exactly what makes it such a great learning environment. Collectively, our staff are trained to identify, assess, and mitigate anything that the back-country might throw at us, while still exposing our students to real-life challenges. Our staff are trained as Wilderness First Responders (WFR). Furthermore, each lead guide travels with a satellite phone able to be used in the case of emergencies. Please contact us if you have further questions about our emergency procedures.

Food

We take great care in choosing the menu for our trips. Dietary restrictions, ease of cooking, caloric value, weight, and deliciousness are all factored into our final menu. During registration, please help us accommodate all your needs by letting us know about any specific allergies or dietary restrictions.

Cancellation Policy

If canceling 30 days prior to the beginning of the trip, a 50% refund of the total trip cost will be given. If canceling within 30 days of the beginning of the trip, a credit will be given, redeamable at any time, for the cost of the trip you have signed up for
